This past summer, I had the privilege of assisting Carrie with Vacation Bible School, and what amazed me most was how she stepped in and led the class with such confidence and grace from the very first moment. It was as if she already knew each little one’s personality—how to keep their attention, how to gently but firmly guide those having a hard time, and how to make every child feel seen and loved.
Carrie brought so much joy to VBS. She would dance alongside the kids during the opening and closing ceremonies, wearing the bright red headband that our VBS children wore. Seeing her in that headband, clipboard in hand, always brought a smile to my face.
Beyond VBS, Carrie faithfully served as a Kids Hope USA mentor at Frazeysburg Elementary School. I’ll never forget when her mentee was asked during an interview what he liked most about his mentor. Without hesitation, he said, “She brings me lots of candy.” That simple answer spoke volumes about Carrie’s kindness, thoughtfulness, and ability to connect.
Carrie was truly a gem—warm, selfless, and full of life. Her presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. I’m sending heartfelt prayers for peace and comfort to Scott, Gillian, Wade, and everyone whose lives she touched.
