Carl C. Salyer's Obituary
Funeral service for Carl Cecil Salyer, 87 of Newark will be held Friday October 20, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. in the sanctuary of Community Wesleyan Church, 121 Myrtle Avenue, Newark with Pastor Norm Wright, Pastor Christopher Dyer and Pastor Anthony Payton officiating. Burial will be in Newark Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by the Licking County Veterans Alliance.
Carl died Monday October 16, 2017 at the Selma Markowitz Care Center operated by Hospice of Central Ohio. Carl was born May 4, 1930 in Ironton, Ohio to Hobert Henry and Della Mae (Conley) Salyer.
Carl married the love of his life Mary Pauline “Polly” James on March 23, 1952. At the time he was proudly serving our country in The United States Army.
Their union created two sons; Jeff (Angela Allen) Salyer of Newark, Ohio and Jim (Penny Harker) Salyer of Columbus, Ohio.
He is also survived by sisters: Grace Wilson, Nancy (Don) Clary of Newark, Ohio; grandchildren, Tyler (Rachel) Salyer of Collierville, TN, Brandon (Julie) Salyer of Findlay, OH, Corey (Jenn) Salyer of Newark, OH, Nathan, Maura, Jonah, Carly Salyer of Columbus, OH; great-grandchildren: Ryan, Jackson, Georgia, Hadley, August, Lincoln, Eloise, Billie Reid, Cole; aunt, Rhoda Albert; sister-in-law, Thelma Salyer; numerous nieces and nephews.
He worked for Kaiser Aluminum for 42 year, missing only 3 days of work. He was an avid sports fan. He loved the Buckeyes and Indians. Carl and Polly would often travel to watch their grandchildren play their games. Carl was a member of Community Wesleyan Church and served our Lord in many positions: youth directors, usher and was in the choir.
In addition to his parents, Carl was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years on June 16, 2014; brothers, William Claude, Roy Clyde, Hobert Henry Jr, Robert (Bob) Eugene, James Leroy, John Edward; sisters: Minnie Elisabeth, Edna Mae, Mary Ruth, Freda LaVerne.
Calling hours will be observed Thursday, October 19, 2017 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Newark Chapel of VENSIL & CHUTE FUNERAL HOME 1850 West Main Street. Additional visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church.
