Billy R. Hicks' Obituary
A funeral service for Billy R. Hicks, 78 of Newark will be held Monday, February 24, 2014 at 12:00 p.m. in the Newark Chapel of Vensil & Chute Funeral Home with Pastor Josh Pennington officiating. Burial will be in Wilson Cemetery. Military services will be conducted by the Licking County Veterans Alliance.
Mr. Hicks died Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at the Selma Markowitz Care Center operated by Hospice of Central Ohio. He was born June 22, 1935 in Lynn Springs, VA to the late Clarence and Stella M. (Rakes) Hicks, Sr.
Mr. Hicks retired from Rockwell Manufacturing and was a former employee of E.T. Rugg. He was a member of Newark Lodge # 97 F & AM, Newark Chapter # 305 O.E.S. and a life member of the Disabled American Veterans. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was very apt in repairing items. He was an avid OSU football fan and enjoyed watching Tiger Woods golf. His greatest love was his family.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Sylvia J. (Dye) Hicks, whom he married on March 11, 1955; six sons, Terry (Barbara) Hicks, of Tacoma, WA, Steve (Lori) Hicks, Randy (Donna) Hicks, Ronald Hicks, Philip Hicks, Jeffrey Hicks all of Newark; sisters, Betty (Andy) Dye, Delores (Bobby) Dye all of Newark, Virginia and Brenda of Virginia; fifteen grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews including Angie Doeham of Indianapolis.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Clarence Hicks, Jr.
Calling hours will be observed Monday from 10 am till noon at the VENSIL & CHUTE FUNERAL HOME 1850 West Main St.
