Bernard L. Mack's Obituary
Bernard L. Mack, 88 of Thornville passed away July 23, 2011 at the Genesis Morrison House Hospice. He was born on the family farm in Licking County on March 16, 1923 to the late Oscar and Laura (Gutridge) Mack.
Bernard graduated from Jacksontown High School in 1941. He married Bernice Wilkins on August 17, 1942 at the Ziontown Brethern Church.
Bernard served his country during WWII in the U.S. Army and was stationed on Saipan for two years. After returning home, he worked at John Deere, and then worked with his father in house construction. In 1953, he began his career at Kaiser Aluminum in Heath, working as a carpenter. He retired in 1985 after 32 years of service.
He was a member of the Heath Church of Christ, where he served as an elder and Sunday School teacher for many years. He was a prayer warrior and ministered to the sick through his hospital visits. He also utilized his carpentry and electrical skills in the church building’s maintenance.
Other interests included gardening, golfing, camping, horse shoes and traveling. He was a regular customer at Cracker Barrel, Bob Evans and Red Lobster.
Left to cherish his memory are his two sons and their wives, Jim and Becky Mack, Kevin and Karen Mack all of Thornville; four grandsons, Jonathan and his wife Danaé, Jordan, Ryan, Levi Mack; sister, Keitha Weaver of Columbus; brother and wife, Robert and Pat Mack of Austintown; many nieces, nephews and their families; and many friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Bernice on April 26, 2003; infant son, Harold Mack; and brother-in-law, Ed Weaver.
Friends may call on Tuesday, July 26, 2011 at the Heath Church of Christ, 1331 Chapel Way, Heath, Ohio from 2 to 4 p.m. and 5:30 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 7:00 p.m. at the church, beginning with a flag presentation by the Licking County Veteran Alliance. Ministers Greg Robbins, Dave Mason and Ray Linn will officiate. Burial will be at the Lutheran Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Heath Church of Christ.
