Ann B. Sims' Obituary
A funeral service for Ann B. Sims, 77 of Columbus will be held Wednesday April 27, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. in the Newark Chapel of Vensil-Orr & Chute Funeral Home with Pastor Barbara Sholis officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Sims died Friday April 22, 2011 at Mt. Carmel St. Ann’s Hospital. She was born May 6, 1933 in Newark to the late Dr. William J. and Gwendolyn (Davies) Barrick.
Mrs. Sims a devoted wife and mother, was a 1951 graduate of Newark High School. She graduated from The Ohio State University and a member of the Delta Gamma Sorority. She retired in 1994 after 30 years of teaching. Much of that time spent with the Columbus Public Schools at the Alpine, Medary and Hubbard Elementary schools as a third grade teacher. She was a member of Heisey Collectors of America and a supporter of the Mount Vernon Ladies’ Association of the Union. Gardening had been a lifelong passion. During her retirement, Ann enjoyed antiquing, volunteering for Congressman's Pat Tiberi's political campaigns and watching Cleveland Indians baseball games.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Robert F. Sims, whom she married September 3, 1954; daughter, Judy A. McCracken of Toledo; son, David S. Sims of Newark; grandchildren, Lindsey (Jonathan) Carle, Geoffrey Sims, Stephanie Sims, Morgan McCracken, Kelsey McCracken, Conner McCracken, Molly McCracken; nieces, Kathy Eichenberger, Debbie Halk, Beth Lehner; cousin, Sally (Jim) McIndoe of Mentor.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brother and sister-in-law, William and Eleanor Barrick; daughter-in-law, Melanie Sims; son-in-law, Steve McCracken.
Calling hours will be observed Tuesday April 26, 2011 from 4 to 7p.m. at the VENSIL-ORR & CHUTE FUNERAL HOME 1850 W. Main St. Newark, Ohio.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the Class of 1951 Scholarship Fund, C/o Licking County Foundation 30 N. 2nd Street, P.O. Box 4212, Newark, Ohio 43058-4212 or the Salvation Army. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
